Vision

 

The department envisions preserving and revitalizing Kashmir’s rich musical heritage through the study and practice of Sufiyana Musiqi—an intricate and deeply rooted classical tradition. With a focus on both tradition and innovation, the department nurtures a new generation of musicians by offering professional training in Sufiyana music. Alongside the Sufiyana Santoor, students are immersed in the full range of instruments and styles that define this unique art form, positioning it within the broader dialogue of global musical traditions.

The mission of the department is to provide comprehensive education in Sufiyana Music, with a dedicated focus on the Sufiyana Santoor, in order to promote artistic excellence, preserve cultural heritage, and inspire future generations of musicians within both local and global contexts.

 

Objectives

 

  • To foster holistic development by engaging students in the study and practice of Sufiyana music, enhancing creativity, cognitive skills, emotional expression, and self-esteem through both performance and scholarly inquiry.

  • To preserve and promote the cultural heritage of Kashmir’s traditional music by offering professional-level training in Sufiyana music and encouraging the younger generation to engage with it through both practice and research, ensuring its survival and continued relevance.

  • To provide platforms for skilled students and artists in Kashmiri Sufiyana music, supporting performance, documentation, and academic research, while enabling them to build sustainable careers and contribute to the global understanding of this rich musical tradition.
