The Department of Santoor Indian Classical would be leading seat of excellence for Indian Classical Music education & research in santoor to promote the rich cultural heritage of Kashmir as well as that of the entire nation with all innovations of music par with other living Art forms across the globe. And in this endeavor science of santoor will involve fostering of skilled academicians and musicians to preserve and nurture the traditional repertoire of the iconic santoor maestros and leading stalwarts of J&K for our budding and future artistic generation. And this will explore the unending potential of santoor as leading musical instrument for various Classical/Semi-Classical/Light Musical & Theatre Programs, Dramas including Film Industry of our republic India with all Devotional/Patriotic and entertaining spirit extra. And to get recognition with highest academic excellence under the umbrella of Shri Pran Kishan Koul, IMFA, University of Kashmir, Santoor will get global hall mark of successful appreciation for its propagation to masses with an acceptance that nothing is impossible to achieve!

More ever to safe guard & promote the traditional musical techniques, its true history & cultural significance is most important to be kept live among the annals of living Art forms for which Santoor Department has to engage in & outreach programs to promote its Art & scientific impact at community level first by encouraging the interested learners in the field of Instrumental music. Field trips to research sound labs & workshops on specialized topics related to Art of Santoor in particular will provide students a hand on learning Art experiences with Practical skills.

Mission

Valued Art service of Skilled Musicians & Academicians would be availed to train the students with fundamental skills of Santoor playing, Conduct of research program on Santoor with its true history, Playing techniques & roll in different musical contexts would be pondered with Art sense & fine determination to showcase the Santoor’s unique sound & versatility through Performances / Workshops & Educational initiatives. To provide students the Skills & knowledge as need of an hour to peruse professional carriers in Music field including Teaching, Performance & Rendition of compositions extra.
