The Department of Vocal at the Institute of Music and Fine Arts, University of Kashmir, aims to become a leading centre for learning and promoting Indian classical vocal music. The department is committed to preserving the rich musical traditions of our culture while also encouraging new ideas and creativity in music. We strive to train skilled, confident, and thoughtful vocal artists who can perform at local, national, and international levels. Through dedicated teaching, practical training, and cultural activities, we hope to inspire students to become responsible artists and contributors to society.

  •  Comprehensive Curriculum: To provide deep and in-depth Bachelor’s degree program that combines the study of Indian classical vocal techniques with music theory, history, and performance practice.

  • Cultural Preservation: To document preserve and promote the diverse traditions and Gharanas of Indian classical vocal music, ensuring future generations have access to this rich heritage and legacy.

  • Community Outreach: To actively engage with local communities through performances, workshops, and collaborative events, promoting a wider understanding appreciation and participation in Indian classical music.
